Process Genius has implemented a new virtual platform for Eteläportti (Video 1)

Openly available online and on mobile devices, the virtual platform displays all free plots in the Eteläportti area of Jyväskylä, and shows plot sizes and current owners. The application was specifically designed for companies or their partners involved in planning projects to test implementation alternatives. Visitors can use design tools to place various buildings on the plots.

Development of the Eteläportti virtual platform is a project managed by Business Jyväskylä, the business services unit of the City of Jyväskylä, and funded by the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment of Central Finland, the City of Jyväskylä and the Municipality of Muurame. The virtual platform was implemented by Process Genius Oy, which is also developing it further.

The virtual model is embedded in a map, displaying the plot shapes, location data, zoning regulations and, for example, any earthmoving work required before construction begins. The design tools can be used to model the buildings in their actual size, providing a good idea of how any building would fit into the plot. Transport connections can also be assessed.

You can try out various design solutions on the virtual platform, without revealing any trade secrets. Any problems or other issues can be viewed in the model from afar, enabling faster and more cost-effective solutions. You can also use the virtual model to present your plans to customers, staff and partners, says Eteläportti project manager Heikki Kinnunen of Business Jyväskylä.

No username and password is required to use the virtual platform, and it can be tested freely. However, if you want to save your plan, you have to register as a user. Any saved plans are private and can only be accessed with the appropriate username and password obtained from Process Genius, the platform provider. Plans are not publicly available, and cannot be seen by other platform users.

The virtual platform is intuitive, with instructions provided step by step. A ‘safety feature’ has been added which asks for confirmation each time a user tries to delete anything from a model. The virtual model is implemented in the proper scale, so you can upload your preliminary plan straight to the model and instantly see how it looks on the map and in models,” says Process Genius Oy’s Mikko Myyry, who was in charge of designing the virtual platform.

Production layout planning and co-development with data

The virtual platform has a tool that can be used to add production line elements such as machinery and equipment. (Video 2)

Our vision is to use the virtual platform to increasingly support decision-making on the basis of data. The goal is for various sensors and systems to collect data for the platform from selected sources, with the shared data being collaboratively analyzed by various teams and actors, and the best possible decisions being made together. This means harnessing people’s abilities and expertise for what they are best at, says Kinnunen.

If you want to save your plans, you must register for the service and obtain a username and password. Registration takes place in the virtual model. If you want to upload any of your own design models into the model, for now you must contact Process Genius: etelaportti@processgenius.fi or leave your contact details on a feedback form.

Your email address is used as the username. No personal information is requested or collected during registration. Your email address (username) will not be used for purposes other than logging in, or restoring a forgotten password. Any saved plans are private and can only be accessed with the username and password used to create them.
